What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is simply us encouraging our clients into a naturally relaxed state that we all experience daily, without necessarily even realising it.
Think of those moments when you’re just waking up or falling asleep, or perhaps when you drift off into a daydream, or are driving along without really thinking where you’re going. Well, that’s what you could call an ‘hypnotic trance’!
How does hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy works with your subconscious mind to empower and motivate you to make the changes you desire.
Our skilled therapist will guide you into this natural state of relaxation (hypnosis) and then make suggestions to your subconscious mind to effect change based on your consultation and agreed treatment plan.
These suggestions will use exciting mental imagery designed to help your mind make the positive, beneficial changes you require.
What if I can’t be hypnotised?
Everyone is able to be hypnotised – as long as they want to be.
What will it feel like?
It’s best not to come with any expectations, or to try and feel a certain way during the session. Just listen and follow the therapists’ guidance (that’s what we’re there for after all!) and let your mind go its own way.
Everyone’s experience of hypnosis is different – as is the case with most things in life.
Most people simply feel nicely relaxed, a bit dreamy, they are typically aware of what’s being said and may have conscious thoughts flitting in and out of their mind.
As you become more familiar with hypnosis you may find it easier to go into a deeper state of relaxation and perhaps not remember everything that has been said during the session. This doesn’t matter as the subconscious will have been taking it all on board!
What if I get stuck in hypnosis?
You can’t get stuck in hypnosis, just as you can’t get stuck in sleep. At the end of the session you’ll be gently awakened from the state by your therapist.
Am I in control?
One of the most common concerns people have about hypnotherapy is that they are going to be under some kind of hypnotic ‘spell’ and made to do all kinds of random things. We are pleased to inform you that witches and wizards we are not, and our levels of magic are restricted to the odd rubbish card trick!
You will absolutely be in full control during the hypnotherapy session. The therapist cannot force you to do or say anything that you don’t want to.
We are simply here to help you achieve the change that you’ve come see us about. You still have your own free will and choice at all times.
Am I going to be made to cluck like a chicken?
No. Unless of course that’s what you’ve come to achieve!
